Testosterone Receptor Sensitivity

Meaning

Testosterone Receptor Sensitivity refers to the degree of responsiveness of the Androgen Receptor (AR) within target cells to the binding of testosterone and its potent metabolite, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This sensitivity is a crucial determinant of an individual’s biological response to a given circulating level of androgens, influencing muscle growth, libido, and bone density. Genetic polymorphisms in the AR gene, particularly the length of the CAG trinucleotide repeat, are known to modulate this sensitivity, leading to significant inter-individual variability in androgen action.
