Testosterone Production Suppression

Meaning

Testosterone Production Suppression refers to the pathological or pharmacologically induced reduction in the synthesis and secretion of testosterone by the Leydig cells in the testes. This suppression can be secondary to central causes, such as a reduction in Luteinizing Hormone (LH) from the pituitary, or primary, due to direct testicular damage or feedback inhibition from exogenous hormones. Clinically, it leads to hypogonadism, characterized by low circulating testosterone levels and associated symptoms like reduced libido, muscle mass loss, and bone density decline. Identifying the site of suppression is critical for therapeutic intervention.
