Testosterone Depletion

Meaning

Testosterone depletion is the clinical state characterized by an abnormally low concentration of circulating testosterone, which often leads to a range of adverse symptoms and profound physiological consequences in both men and women. This deficiency, formally known as hypogonadism in men, can result in decreased libido, reduced muscle mass and bone mineral density, and impaired mood and cognitive function. Accurate diagnosis requires a careful correlation between consistently low laboratory values and the presence of specific, measurable clinical signs.
