Testosterone Cortisol Interaction

Meaning

Testosterone Cortisol Interaction describes the reciprocal and often antagonistic relationship between the primary anabolic steroid hormone, testosterone, and the catabolic stress hormone, cortisol, a critical axis in human physiology. High, sustained cortisol levels, often resulting from chronic stress, can suppress the pulsatile release of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and inhibit testicular testosterone synthesis, leading to a decreased testosterone-to-cortisol ratio. This imbalance is a key biomarker of chronic stress and catabolic state, directly impacting muscle mass, immune function, and overall vitality.
