Testicular Recovery

Meaning

Testicular Recovery is the process by which the testes regain their normal function, specifically the ability to produce endogenous testosterone and viable sperm, following a period of suppression or atrophy. This is a common clinical concern for men discontinuing exogenous androgen therapy, which suppresses the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. The process involves stimulating the testes back into activity using targeted pharmacological agents, such as selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) or human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Successful recovery is clinically confirmed by the normalization of endogenous testosterone levels and the return of spermatogenesis.
