Testicular Dysgenesis Syndrome

Meaning

A clinical term encompassing a spectrum of male reproductive disorders, including cryptorchidism (undescended testes), hypospadias (abnormal urethral opening), poor semen quality, and testicular cancer, which are hypothesized to share a common developmental origin. The syndrome is thought to arise from disruptions in fetal testicular development during a critical window of differentiation, leading to impaired function of Sertoli and Leydig cells. This constellation of conditions reflects a systemic failure in the male reproductive programming.
