Testicular Aging

Meaning

Testicular Aging, often referred to in a clinical context as andropause or late-onset hypogonadism, describes the progressive, inevitable, and multifactorial decline in both the endocrine and exocrine functions of the male testes that occurs over time. This physiological process is characterized by a gradual reduction in the overall production of testosterone, a measurable impairment in the efficiency of spermatogenesis, and significant structural changes within the testicular tissue, including increased fibrosis and a measurable decrease in the number of functional Leydig cells. These cumulative changes contribute to a constellation of symptoms, including decreased libido, a reduction in muscle mass, and mood alterations, all of which profoundly impact the male quality of life.
