Meaning

The Gut-Hormone Axis refers to the critical, bi-directional communication network that exists between the gastrointestinal tract, the gut microbiota, and the endocrine system throughout the body. This axis profoundly influences hormonal health by regulating nutrient absorption, modulating systemic inflammation, and directly controlling the metabolism and recycling of steroid hormones, particularly estrogens, via the estrobolome. A healthy gut environment is therefore essential for maintaining hormonal balance, and clinical symptoms of hormonal imbalance are often intertwined with gastrointestinal dysbiosis.
