Tendinopathy

Meaning

Tendinopathy is a clinical term describing a chronic, painful condition affecting a tendon, characterized by a combination of pain, swelling, and impaired function, often resulting from repetitive strain or overuse. Critically, the underlying pathology is typically a degenerative change within the tendon structure, known as tendinosis, rather than an acute inflammatory process, which is why the term is preferred over older diagnoses like tendinitis. Hormonal status can significantly influence the risk and severity of this condition.
