Temperature-Sensitive Biologics

Meaning

Temperature-sensitive biologics are pharmaceutical products, typically large, complex molecules derived from living organisms, such as hormones, vaccines, and therapeutic proteins, whose stability and efficacy are highly dependent on maintaining a specific, narrow temperature range throughout their entire lifecycle. Exposure to temperature excursions outside the specified range, either too hot or too cold, can irreversibly denature the protein structure, rendering the medication ineffective or potentially immunogenic. These products necessitate strict cold chain management.
