Temperature Control

Meaning

The physiological process, known as thermoregulation, by which the body maintains its core temperature within a narrow, optimal range despite fluctuations in the external environment. This vital homeostatic function is centrally coordinated by the hypothalamus, which acts as the body’s thermostat, integrating signals from peripheral and central thermoreceptors. Clinical disturbances in temperature control, such as persistent fever, hypothermia, or the vasomotor symptoms of menopause, often indicate underlying hormonal or systemic dysfunction.
