Telomerase Activation

Meaning

Telomerase Activation is the process of upregulating the activity of the telomerase enzyme, a specialized reverse transcriptase that adds repetitive nucleotide sequences, known as telomeres, to the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes. Telomeres naturally shorten with each cell division, a key driver of cellular senescence and biological aging. Clinically, activating telomerase is a therapeutic strategy aimed at counteracting telomere attrition, thereby extending the replicative lifespan of cells and potentially enhancing tissue repair and regenerative capacity. This is a primary focus within longevity medicine and cellular anti-aging research.
