TCM Diagnostics

Meaning

TCM Diagnostics refers to the unique, holistic system of assessment used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to determine the underlying pattern of disharmony, or syndrome, within an individual. This diagnostic process relies on four primary methods: inspection (observing the tongue and overall demeanor), auscultation/olfaction (listening to the voice and noting body odors), inquiry (detailed questioning about symptoms and lifestyle), and palpation (checking the pulse at the wrist). These methods collectively map the state of the body’s vital substances—Qi, Blood, Essence, and Fluids—and the balance of Yin and Yang within the organ systems. It provides the framework for personalized treatment, including herbal medicine and acupuncture.
