TBG Glycosylation

Meaning

TBG Glycosylation is the specific post-translational modification process where carbohydrate moieties, or glycans, are enzymatically attached to the Thyroxine-Binding Globulin (TBG) protein. TBG is the principal transport protein responsible for carrying thyroid hormones, T4 and T3, in the systemic circulation. Variations in the pattern or extent of this glycosylation directly influence the protein’s stability, clearance rate, and overall capacity to bind thyroid hormones.
