Tau Protein Reduction

Meaning

Tau Protein Reduction refers to the physiological process or therapeutic objective of decreasing the concentration of hyperphosphorylated and aggregated Tau protein within the brain’s neurons. Tau is a microtubule-associated protein essential for stabilizing the neuronal cytoskeleton; however, its pathological aggregation forms neurofibrillary tangles, a key pathological hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease and other tauopathies. Reduction strategies aim to mitigate neurotoxicity and preserve cognitive function.
