Targeted Stressors

Meaning

Targeted Stressors are precisely controlled, brief exposures to physical, metabolic, or cognitive challenges that are strategically applied to elicit a beneficial, adaptive physiological response, a phenomenon known as hormesis. These stimuli, such as specific high-intensity interval training, controlled fasting periods, or acute thermal exposure, are dosed to activate cellular defense and repair pathways without causing chronic systemic damage or exhaustion. They are a core tool for enhancing biological resilience and adaptive capacity.
