Tapering Protocol

Meaning

A Tapering Protocol is a medically supervised, systematic schedule for the gradual reduction of a medication’s dosage over a specified period. This clinical procedure is implemented to safely discontinue a drug, allowing the body’s neurobiological or endocrine systems to slowly re-adapt to the absence of the exogenous agent. The primary goal is to prevent or significantly minimize the severity of withdrawal symptoms and the potential for rebound effects that can occur with abrupt cessation.
