Tamoxifen Retinopathy

Meaning

Tamoxifen Retinopathy is a rare but clinically significant ocular toxicity characterized by specific pathological changes in the retina, primarily the macula, associated with long-term, high-dose use of the selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) tamoxifen. The condition involves the formation of crystalline deposits within the inner layers of the retina, often accompanied by macular edema. Clinically, it can lead to decreased visual acuity and is a serious consideration requiring regular ophthalmological screening for patients on tamoxifen therapy.
