T4 Hormone

Meaning

T4 Hormone, formally and chemically known as Thyroxine, is the primary hormone secreted by the thyroid gland, a critical endocrine gland situated in the anterior neck. It is considered a prohormone, meaning it possesses relatively low biological activity itself and serves as the main circulating reservoir of thyroid hormone within the bloodstream. T4 is absolutely essential for regulating the body’s basal metabolic rate, influencing growth, development, and the functional activity of nearly every single organ system.
