T-Cell Immune Competence

Meaning

T-Cell Immune Competence refers to the optimal functional capability of T-lymphocytes, which are essential components of the adaptive immune system responsible for cell-mediated immunity. This competence is defined by the T-cells’ ability to accurately recognize and mount an effective, targeted response against specific intracellular pathogens and aberrant self-cells, such as cancer cells. Declining competence, often seen with age, is termed immunosenescence. Maintaining this function is critical for disease surveillance.
