Systolic Heart Failure

Meaning

Systolic heart failure, clinically known as Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction (HFrEF), is a serious clinical syndrome defined by the heart’s diminished capacity to pump sufficient blood into the systemic circulation due to impaired contractility of the left ventricle during the systolic phase. This mechanical failure results in a pathologically low ejection fraction, leading to hallmark symptoms such as debilitating fatigue, dyspnea, and peripheral fluid retention. The underlying pathophysiology is often exacerbated by various hormonal and metabolic dysfunctions, including thyroid hormone deficiency and the effects of chronic stress.
