Systolic Dysfunction

Meaning

Systolic Dysfunction is a specific form of cardiac impairment clinically defined by a reduced capacity of the left ventricle of the heart to contract forcefully and efficiently eject blood into the systemic circulation. This impairment results in a decreased left ventricular ejection fraction, which is the hallmark of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Endocrine factors, such as chronic hyperthyroidism, severe growth hormone deficiency, or long-standing diabetes, can significantly contribute to the development or clinical progression of this fundamental mechanical failure.
