Systemic Vigilance

Meaning

Systemic Vigilance refers to the body’s continuous, integrated monitoring and adaptive response mechanisms, primarily orchestrated by the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis, designed to detect and react to internal or external stressors. This constant state of awareness maintains physiological stability, or allostasis, by mobilizing resources as needed. It is the foundational defense mechanism against disruption. A failure in vigilance leads to chronic dysregulation.
