Systemic Inflammation

Meaning

Systemic inflammation is a chronic, low-grade inflammatory state that persists throughout the body, characterized by elevated circulating levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and acute-phase proteins like C-reactive protein (CRP). Unlike acute inflammation, which is a necessary, protective response to injury, this chronic state does not resolve and is a major underlying driver of many age-related diseases, including cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, and metabolic syndrome. Clinically, it represents a significant, measurable drag on overall vitality and compromises optimal hormonal health.
