Systemic Inflammaging Axis

Meaning

The Systemic Inflammaging Axis is the conceptual framework describing the chronic, low-grade, sterile inflammation that increases with age and drives the progression of most age-related diseases and endocrine dysfunction. This axis is characterized by persistently elevated circulating levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, often without a specific infectious trigger. It represents the detrimental interplay between senescent cells, a dysbiotic microbiome, and an overactive innate immune system, which collectively compromises hormonal signaling and metabolic health.
