Systemic Immune Response

Meaning

Systemic immune response describes the coordinated, body-wide reaction of both the innate and adaptive immune systems to a generalized threat, such as a widespread infection, major tissue injury, or persistent chronic inflammation. This complex response involves the rapid circulation of immune cells, powerful signaling molecules like cytokines, and acute-phase proteins throughout the bloodstream to address the challenge at any distant site. The magnitude, duration, and resolution of this response are profoundly modulated by the central neuroendocrine system.
