Systemic Circulation

Meaning

Systemic circulation refers to the portion of the cardiovascular system that transports oxygenated blood from the left ventricle of the heart, through the aorta, to all the tissues and organs of the body, and then returns deoxygenated blood to the right atrium. This extensive network is responsible for delivering essential nutrients, oxygen, and, critically, endocrine hormones to their distant target cells. Its efficiency is a fundamental determinant of overall physiological health and organ function.
