Systemic Allostasis Erosion

Meaning

This pathological state describes the gradual, cumulative wear and tear on the body’s major regulatory systems, including the neuroendocrine, immune, and cardiovascular systems, resulting from chronic, repeated, or ineffective adaptation to persistent stressors. ‘Allostasis’ is the process of achieving stability through physiological change, and its ‘Erosion’ signifies the eventual breakdown of the body’s capacity to adapt. This leads to a state of chronic allostatic load, manifesting as accelerated aging, metabolic syndrome, and HPA axis dysregulation. It is a critical indicator of long-term health risk.
