System Fidelity

Meaning

System fidelity refers to the degree of accuracy, reliability, and precision with which a biological network, such as the endocrine system, transmits and executes its signaling commands without distortion or error. High fidelity means that a hormone signal is produced at the correct time and concentration, transported efficiently, recognized accurately by its receptor, and transduced into the intended cellular response with minimal noise. Diminished fidelity, often seen with biological aging or chronic inflammation, results in signal ambiguity, poor tissue response, and ultimately, systemic homeostatic dysregulation.
