Sympathetic Tone Mitigation

Meaning

Sympathetic Tone Mitigation is the clinical process of reducing the chronic, excessive activity of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), which is the “fight-or-flight” branch of the autonomic nervous system. A state of chronic sympathetic overdrive, or high sympathetic tone, is strongly associated with elevated stress hormones, hypertension, insulin resistance, and accelerated allostatic load. Mitigation strategies aim to restore balance with the parasympathetic system, promoting rest, recovery, and metabolic harmony.
