Sympathetic Nervous System Control

Meaning

Sympathetic Nervous System Control is the clinical strategy of modulating the activity of the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system (SNS), which is responsible for the “fight or flight” response, to maintain optimal physiological balance. Excessive or chronic activation of the SNS, often due to persistent stress, leads to detrimental effects like elevated cortisol, increased heart rate, and impaired digestion. Control aims to promote a healthy balance with the parasympathetic system to reduce allostatic load.
