SWAN Study

Meaning

The SWAN Study, formally known as the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation, is a major, multi-site, longitudinal cohort study in the United States designed to investigate the biological, physical, and psychosocial changes that occur during the menopausal transition in women of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds. This comprehensive study has provided invaluable, population-level data on the fluctuating hormonal profiles, symptom prevalence, and health trajectories, including cardiovascular and bone health, as women transition from pre-menopause through post-menopause. The findings from SWAN are a cornerstone of evidence-based clinical practice in women’s hormonal health.
