Supraphysiological Levels

Meaning

A clinical and pharmacological term referring to the concentration of an endogenous substance, such as a hormone or growth factor, in the systemic circulation or within a specific tissue that significantly exceeds the highest concentration typically observed under normal, non-pathological physiological conditions. These levels are often achieved through the exogenous administration of pharmacological doses of hormones or related compounds. Maintaining these levels can elicit non-endogenous effects and carries increased risk of adverse events.
