Supraphysiological Fluctuation

Meaning

Supraphysiological Fluctuation describes the non-physiological, exaggerated variation in hormone concentration, where the peak levels transiently rise substantially above the upper limit of the normal, healthy reference range. These excessive peaks are often observed following bolus administration methods, such as certain injection or oral routes, which fail to mimic the body’s native, tightly controlled pulsatile secretion. Such fluctuations can lead to a heightened risk of adverse effects and receptor desensitization.
