Supraphysiological Estradiol

Meaning

Supraphysiological Estradiol refers to circulating levels of the potent estrogen, estradiol ($E_2$), that significantly exceed the normal range typically observed in a healthy premenopausal woman or a woman receiving standard replacement therapy. Clinically, these excessively high concentrations are often the result of aggressive or poorly monitored exogenous hormone administration, or in rare cases, specific pathological conditions like estrogen-secreting tumors. Sustained supraphysiological levels carry increased risks of venous thromboembolism, endometrial hyperplasia, and other adverse estrogen-dependent effects. The term denotes a state of endocrine excess requiring urgent clinical correction.
