Supraphysiological Dose

Meaning

A Supraphysiological Dose is a quantity of an exogenous substance, such as a synthetic hormone or drug, that is administered at a level significantly exceeding the maximum concentration naturally produced by the human body under normal homeostatic conditions. While endogenous hormones exert their effects at physiological concentrations, a supraphysiological dose is often utilized in clinical settings to achieve a powerful, non-endogenous pharmacological effect, such as rapid anabolic tissue growth or potent anti-inflammatory action. Careful clinical monitoring is mandatory due to the increased risk of side effects and disruption of the natural endocrine feedback loops.
