Supraphysiologic Dosing

Meaning

Supraphysiologic dosing refers to the clinical or research practice of administering a hormonal or pharmacological agent at a dosage level that results in circulating concentrations significantly exceeding the upper limit of the typical range naturally produced by a healthy endogenous system. This intentional over-dosing is distinct from hormone replacement therapy, which aims to restore levels to a normal range, and is employed to achieve effects that are impossible to elicit under normal physiological conditions.
