Supraphysiologic Doses

Meaning

Supraphysiologic doses refer to the precise clinical administration of an exogenous substance, typically a specific hormone or a peptide therapeutic, at concentrations that demonstrably exceed the highest levels naturally produced by the body under normal, healthy, and non-stressed physiological conditions. These high doses are intentionally employed in specific, acute therapeutic contexts to achieve a rapid, profound, or maximal pharmacological effect that simply cannot be attained with standard replacement or strict physiological dosing regimens. Clinical application of these doses necessitates rigorous and continuous monitoring due to the significantly heightened risk of adverse effects and the predictable disruption of the body’s delicate endogenous feedback loops.
