Supra-Physiological Dosing

Meaning

Supra-Physiological Dosing refers to the clinical or non-clinical administration of a hormone or drug at a dosage level that results in circulating concentrations significantly higher than those naturally produced by the body under normal, homeostatic conditions. While therapeutic dosing aims to restore levels to a normal, healthy range, supra-physiological dosing is often employed to achieve a specific, often rapid or pronounced, pharmacological effect. This approach carries a substantially higher risk of adverse side effects, including cardiovascular and hepatic strain, and severe disruption of the body’s natural endocrine feedback loops.
