Superovulation

Meaning

Superovulation is a controlled hormonal stimulation process used in assisted reproductive technology (ART) to induce the ovaries to produce multiple mature ovarian follicles and oocytes in a single menstrual cycle, significantly exceeding the typical natural single-follicle development. This pharmacological strategy is a cornerstone of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other advanced fertility treatments. The primary clinical goal is to maximize the number of viable eggs available for retrieval and subsequent fertilization attempts.
