Sudden Cardiac Death

Meaning

Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) is a critical and unexpected clinical event defined as a natural death due to an abrupt cardiac cause, occurring rapidly, typically within one hour of the onset of acute symptoms. The underlying proximate cause is overwhelmingly a lethal cardiac arrhythmia, such as ventricular fibrillation, often resulting from pre-existing structural heart disease, severe coronary artery disease, or inherited electrical channelopathies. In the context of hormonal health, systemic endocrine imbalances can significantly alter cardiac electrophysiology and increase vulnerability to these fatal arrhythmic events.
