Substrate Partitioning Fidelity

Meaning

Substrate Partitioning Fidelity describes the accuracy and efficiency with which the body’s metabolic machinery directs circulating energy substrates, such as glucose and fatty acids, to their appropriate storage or utilization pathways in various tissues. High fidelity ensures that glucose is primarily directed to muscle and liver glycogen stores, and fatty acids are efficiently oxidized or stored safely in subcutaneous adipose tissue. A loss of fidelity results in ectopic fat deposition in non-adipose tissues, a major contributor to insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
