Substandard and Falsified Medicines

Meaning

Pharmaceutical products that are either failed to meet quality standards (substandard) or deliberately and fraudulently misrepresented with respect to their identity, composition, or source (falsified). Substandard medicines may contain too little, too much, or no active ingredient, while falsified medicines are often counterfeits designed to deceive. Both categories pose a grave, direct threat to patient health and public safety.
