Subpotent Drugs

Meaning

Subpotent Drugs are pharmaceutical products that contain less than the minimum required or declared amount of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), falling outside the acceptable potency specification established during the regulatory approval process. The use of a subpotent drug is a serious quality defect because it can lead to a therapeutic failure, particularly with critical medications like hormonal therapies or antibiotics, by providing an inadequate dose to the patient. Such products are subject to mandatory recall by regulatory bodies.
