Subphysiologic Troughs

Meaning

Subphysiologic Troughs define the minimum hormone concentration observed during a pulsatile or cyclical administration regimen that falls significantly below the established lower limit of the normal, healthy physiological range for that hormone. These low points typically occur just prior to the next scheduled dose, representing periods of temporary, functional hormonal deficiency at the tissue level. Clinically, these troughs are associated with a recurrence of deficiency symptoms and a diminished overall therapeutic outcome.
