Subdermal Pellets

Meaning

Subdermal pellets are small, solid, cylindrical, compounded implants containing crystalline hormones, most commonly testosterone or estradiol, that are precisely inserted into the subcutaneous fat layer, typically in the hip or buttocks area, to facilitate a sustained, continuous release of the therapeutic agent. This advanced delivery method is designed to provide a steady-state concentration of the hormone in the peripheral bloodstream, effectively mitigating the significant peaks and troughs associated with conventional oral or injectable administration. The pellets slowly biodegrade and dissolve over a period of several months, requiring periodic re-implantation for continued therapeutic benefit.
