Subcutaneous Fibrosis

Meaning

Subcutaneous fibrosis refers to the abnormal hardening and thickening of connective tissue located directly beneath the skin, specifically within the hypodermis. This condition arises from an excessive deposition of collagen and other extracellular matrix components, leading to a loss of normal tissue elasticity and pliability. It represents a dysregulated wound healing response where the body produces too much scar tissue in a localized area, often impacting the underlying adipose and fascial layers.
