Subcutaneous Delivery

Meaning

Subcutaneous delivery is a medical route of administration where a substance, such as a drug or hormone, is injected into the hypodermis, the layer of adipose tissue directly beneath the dermis of the skin. This method is utilized for systemic absorption of medications that are either poorly absorbed orally or require a slow, sustained release into the bloodstream. In hormonal therapy, it is a preferred method for administering certain peptide hormones or for achieving steady-state concentrations of steroid hormones, ensuring consistent physiological signaling.
