Sub-Potent Dose

Meaning

A Sub-Potent Dose is a quantity of a therapeutic agent administered that is insufficient to achieve the minimum effective concentration (MEC) required to elicit the desired or expected physiological effect in the target tissue. This dose level falls below the threshold necessary to saturate the target receptors or adequately activate the intended downstream biological pathway. Administration of a sub-potent dose is a form of treatment failure, resulting in an inadequate or absent clinical response.
