Sub-Optimal Signaling

Meaning

This clinical state describes a condition where the intercellular communication within the endocrine system is impaired, resulting in a biological response that is significantly less robust or effective than what is required for optimal physiological function. This impairment can manifest as insufficient hormone production, reduced receptor density, or post-receptor signal transduction defects, leading to a diminished downstream effect in target tissues. Sub-optimal signaling is a key precursor to many age-related metabolic and functional declines.
